2008 Field Show Announced! (No, really)
The theme for the 2008 field show is "Guitar Hero". The songs for the show are taken from the popular video game series. Songs will be announced when the show is complete.
Spread the word!
April Fool's Day!
The following three topics are part of our annual April Fool's page. Supposedly we fooled some people!
2008 Field Show Announced!
Band director Ed Marsh announces the concept for the 2008 SHSMB field show.
"I am proud to announce that our show will be "One" by Metallica. That's it, that's the whole show. We will play this epic seven-and-a-half minute piece from start to finish, including the war sounds in the beginning."
"Since the USSBA is allowing electronics, we thought that, in the vein of the hometown Cadets drum corps, we would include sound and vocals in our show. We will also have one band member, probably a newbie, lay in bed the entire show, like the video. We'll have some of the band parents dress the person, and apply makeup and other items like in the video. It will be a dark, poignant show."
When asked for comment, members of the marching band responded with a resounding "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!".
Tuba Tara Quits Marching Band
Low brass stalwart Tuba Tara announced her intention to leave the band before the beginning of the 2008 marching season.
Tara, whose legal name is actually "Tuba Tara" after a name change, decided to pursue personal hygiene during her fall semester. Noted Tuba Tara "It's really hard to focus on playing the tuba in the band when people are constantly commenting on the aroma coming from the low brass section. I decided it is in my and the band's best interest to take the time to really shower and cleanse myself." Director Ed Marsh notes "We will really miss Tuba's influence and full, rich sound. We will not miss her odor."
Staff Member Phemsint has Nervous Breakdown
Maleesa Phemsint, band alumna, dance team instructor, school play dance coach, teacher, Apple store employee, and soon to be wed, completely freaked out at the first dress rehearsal for "Beauty and the Beast" March 31.
The overworked 25-year-old first collapsed on the floor, then stood up in a fit of rage and beat the crap out of The Beast, who was dressed in full costume at the time. Bystanders noted Phemsint started mumbling "Miss Pencil, Miss Pencil" over and over, crescendoing each time until she let out an almost-primitive scream. Also overheard was "Welcome to Apple Store, do you want a @!#$(#@$ iPhone?", "Guitar Hero. How do you dance to Guitar Hero?" and "It's my wedding, and we will have pink taffeta if I want!".
Friend, former roommate, and fellow staff member Sue Bartolozzi commented "We all knew it was coming. Well, except maybe the pink taffeta. Ewwww."
With this outbreak, Phemsint earned some much-needed time off at a local mental facility.
